Sound effects in Windows 7
Go to Personalization screen and then click Sound Effects to open the window shown in Figure 1.
FIGURE 1: The Windows Sounds properties dialog box
Here, you can define and save sound schemes. The Program Events box shows every system event that produces a sound. A little picture of a speaker next to an event means that a sound is already assigned to it. To hear the sound, highlight the event and click Play.
You can change the sound of an event highlighted in the Program Events box to another sound by pulling down the menu under the word Sounds. Select a sound to assign it to the highlighted system event. Click Play to hear the sound.
You may also use the Browse button to find your own sounds anywhere on your computers hard drive. A browsing window, like the one shown in Figure 2, will appear, and ready to find audio files in the .WAV format. It defaults to the C:\Windows\Media folder, where Windows stores its default sounds, but you can use any .WAV file for any system event.
FIGURE 2: Browsing for a sound
When you have tweaked the sounds to your liking, you can save your selections as a Sound Scheme. Click the Save As button and give your scheme a name. From this point on, your sound scheme will appear in the Sound Schemes drop-down menu.
