Customizing the Classic Start Menu in Windows 7



You can customize the Classic Start Menu. Enable it and click the Customize link in the Taskbar and Start Menu Properties dialog box will open the Customize Classic Start Menu dialog box shown in Figure 1.

This dialog box permits you to add programs to or remove programs from the Start Menu by searching the computer manually or with the help of Windows. Click the Add or Advanced buttons to find programs to add to the Start Menu; click Remove to remove an item; and click Sort to sort them as you need.

The lower part of the dialog box includes a scroll list with a number of check box options, which permit you to turn on or turn off various items that can be displayed in the Start Menu. They are as follows:

1) Display administrative tools (default: off)
2) Display favorites (default: off)
3) Display log off (default: off)
4) Display Run (default: on)
5) Enable context menus and dragging and dropping (default: on)
6) Expand control panel (default: off)
7) Expand documents (default: off)
8) Expand network connections (default: off)
9) Expand pictures (default: off)
10) Expand printers (default: off)
11) Scroll programs (default: off)
12) Show small icons in Start Menu (default: off)
13) Use personalized menus (default: on)
