Restoring files from Shadow Copies in Windows 7
Restoring files from Shadow Copies in Windows 7
To recover lost files in another way is to restore them from what are known as Shadow Copies. Each time you modify and then resave a data file, Windows 7 keeps a copy of the overwritten version of the file. You can access the old versions of files when you need to.
To find a previous version of a file, you have to invoke its properties sheet. You can do so by navigating to a file, or a shortcut to the file, through the file system. Navigate to the folder, right-click on the file of which you want to fish up a previous version, and click Previous Versions.
Notice the tab on the properties sheet labeled Previous Versions. Click it, and Windows starts looking for Shadow Copies of the file.
The file in the Previous Versions window is the original version of the photo. You can open it with an application, save it, and so on. In this case, you need to open it with a photo editor and save it with a different title.
