How to change the OS name in windows 7 boot manager


Introduction


In this tutorial we will guide you how to rename the windows name in windows boot manager.


Here when you dual boot the application, it will guide you how to change the name of listed operating system in the windows boot manager to do your work within the operating system of which you are working.


This method will be very useful if you are willing to rename the operating system if you have more than OS which is listed with the same name.


Using bcdedit command

• Boot the OS which you are willing to change the name in the windows boot manager screen.


• Click on start menu.

• Type “cmd” in search box in start menu.

• Open command through administrator login.

• Type “bcdedit” and hit enter.

• Type bcdedit / set {current} Description “name of your choice” and hit enter.

• Now again type “bcdedit” and hit enter.

• Close the elevated command prompt.

• Now restart the computer and you can view the new name assigned.


Using EasyBCD tool


• Download the EasyBCD program and install it.

• Run the program.

• Click on “Edit Boot Menu”.

• Click on OS which you want to rename.

• Now type the name of your choice for example you can rename windows 7 as windows 7 (advanced).
