    HOW SP2 AFFECTS GAMING

By now, you should have SP2 on your computer. That’s good, because SP2 offers
updates, fixes, and much better security than SP1.It also offers the newest DirectX
features, including DirectX 9, detailed in the previous section. It also includes a firewall and additional features. Unfortunately, SP2’s firewall can get in the way with some games, especially online multiplayer games. To make everything play nice
with everything else, you may need to perform a few link to the firewall.

    Play Safe Online with SP2

SP2’s new security features can get in the way with online gaming, but you
can use the firewall successfully and play games at the same time if you
know how.If you’ve note that you’re not capable to play online multiplayer games
like you used to, or have lost some or all functionality, you need to pull the
Windows Firewall settings or possibly turn it off completely.

If you have discovered that some of your favorite games don’t work as they should, you can either visit those web pages for a workaround or turn off SP2’s firewall completely.Unfortunately, turning off the firewall isn’t a good idea if you don’t have a backup. If you find yourself in this position, consider downloading
a free firewall, like ZoneAlarm, or purchasing a firewall from Symantec
or McAfee. Before installing the new program, turn off Windows Firewall
and then install and turn on the new one.
    To turn off Windows Firewall:
    1. Disconnect from the Internet.
    2. Click Start | Control Panel.
    3. Open Windows Firewall.
    4. Click Off (Not Recommended), as shown in Figure, and click OK.

    5. Install and turn on the new firewall.
    6. Connect to the Internet for updates from the manufacturer.
If you don’t have an additional firewall, you shouldn’t turn off Windows
Firewall. Instead, you should manually make exceptions if possible, or visit
the manufacturer’s web site for a documented and safe workaround
