“It’s a matter of joy. The judgment, by the grace of Allah, is good. It is because of this judgment that I am speaking to you.” This is the statement of Abdul Qadeer Khan, the father of Pakistan Nuclear power. He uttered these words on his release from the home arrest for 5 years and the relief given by the Islamabad court from any charges. Khan was arrested for the alleged secret leakage regarding the nuclear weaponry to Libya, Iran and North Korea. Though he confessed soon after the arrest, the Pak government detained for the betrayal.
Last year a UN nuclear watchdog said Khan's network smuggled nuclear blueprints to Iran, Libya and North Korea and was active in 12 countries. Last month the US state department imposed sanctions on 13 individuals – two of them British – and three private companies because of their involvement in Khan's network. Pakistan has restricted any foreign investigations on Mr. Khan. And A Q Khan is also firm about the decision of his country’s government. Khan told the journalists, “I will always be proud about what I did for Pakistan,” further he added, “I am obliged to answer only to my government, not to any foreigners.”
