    Thumbs up Restoring TrustedInstaller as owner of a file in vista

    1. Right click file, folder or any drive.

    2. Click PROPERTIES.

    3. Click the tab – SECURITY.

    4. Click the button – ADVANCED.

    5. Click the tab – OWNER.

    6. Click the button – EDIT.

    IMP – Please note that in case of the CURRENT OWNER is tagged as TrustedInstaller, stop right here. As the owner of the file is already decided as TrustedInstaller.

    7. Now in the UAC prompt, click CONTINUE.

    8. Click the button – OTHER USERS OR GROUPS.

    9. Type the name of object – NT SERVICE\TrustedInstaller.

    10. Click the button – CHECK NAMES.

    11. Click OK.

    12. Click and highlight the TrustedInstaller.


    IMP Please note that in case of changing the owner for all the subfolders and files, check the box – REPLACE OWNER ON SUBCONTAINERS AND OBJECTS. Then leave it unchecked for a drive. You can’t find it here if you are doing the process just for a file.


    13. Click OK.

    14. For the window just popped up, click OK.
