Manually Backing Up and Restoring a DHCP Server
Server backup software should automatically back up the DHCP configuration. However, you might want to manually back up a DHCP server so that you can immediately restore the configuration on a new server.
To Back Up a DHCP Server
1. Click
Start, click
Administrative Tools, and then click
DHCP.
2. Right-click the
server name, and then click
Backup.
3. In the Browse For Folder dialog box, select the folder to store the backup file in, and then click
OK.
If you are planning to immediately replace the DHCP server, continue following these steps. Otherwise, the backup process is complete.
4. Right-click the
server name, click
All Tasks, and then click
Stop. Stopping the DHCP server prevents it from issuing new addresses that aren’t backed up.
5. Finally, use the Services console to disable the DHCP Server service. Otherwise, the service might start automatically the next time the computer is restarted.
To Restore a DHCP Server
