How to change Power button function in Start Menu in Windows Vista?
Shut down Power button:

You can change whether the Power button in the Start menu performs Shut down, Sleep or Hibernate function.
Note: To perform Hibernate function using Power button first Enable Hibernate function.
You can change Power button function in the following manner:
1) Open Control Panel (Classic View) and double click on the Power Options icon.

2) Now click the link Change plan settings under the active Power Plan.

3) Click the link Change advanced power settings as highlighted below.

4) Now navigate to Power buttons and lid option and double click it to expand it.

5) Double click on Start menu power button option and select Sleep, Hibernate (if enabled) or Shut down from the dropdown list as per you convenience as highlighted above.
6) Click Apply and then OK button.
7) Close Power Options window.
