How to fix System File Checker (SFC) error Windows Resource Protection could not start the repair service in Windows Vista?


It may happen that if you are using System File Checker (SFC) in Vista and running the command sfc /Scannow in the Elevated Command Prompt then you may encounter this error:

It occurs when TrustedInstaller service is turned off.

You can solve this problem in the following manner:

1) Open Start menu. Type or copy services.msc in the search box and hit Enter key

2) Click Continue button if prompted by UAC

3) In the Services window navigate to the Windows Modules Installer service and double click it

4) Choose Manual in the Startup type dropdown list

5) Click the OK button
