How to fix Windows Installer Service could not be accessed error in Windows Vista?


It may happen that while installing a program using Windows Installer you may encounter the following error dialog box:

To counter this problem you can choose any of the following options:

Option 1: Using Windows Services

1) Open Start menu and type services.msc in the search box and press Enter key

2) Click Continue button if prompted by UAC

3) Navigate to the Windows Installer service and double click it

4) Choose Manual from the Startup type dropdown list

5) Click Start button

6) Click OK button


Option 2: Using Registry fix

If the Option 1 does not work then follow these steps:

1) Download the file wifix.zip given at the bottom of the post under Attached files section

2) Save it to a desired location

3) Open the file wifix.zip and double click the wifix.reg file

4) Click Continue button if prompted by UAC


5) Click Yes button to confirm

6) Click OK button the process is successful
