How to set Account Lockout Threshold for user accounts or invalid log on attempts by a user in Windows Vista?



User Account Lockout Threshold is the number of times a user can fail to log on before the user account gets locked out. This setting helps you to enhance the security of your system. This will force fixed number of times a user can fail to log on to your system after which his sccount is locked out. The locked account can be unlocked by the system administrator.

To accomplish this follow these steps:

1) Open Local Security Policy Editor

2) Expand Account Polices \ Account Lockout Policy in the left pane

3) Double click the Account lockout threshold option in the right pane

4) Now type the number of failed logon attempts before a user account is locked out in the Account will lockout after text box between 0 to 999 attempts

Note: Zero (0) means the user account never gets locked out
