How to fix Unable to view DVD Drive Icon by restoring lost DVD Drive Icon in Windows Vista?


It may happen that you are unable to view the DVD Drive Icon on the My Computer window and when you open the Device manager, you see an exclamation mark (!) in place of DVD Drive device.

You can fix this problem by following these steps:

1) Open Control Panel (Classic View) and double click the Device Manager icon

2) Click Continue button if prompted by UAC

3) Right click the DVD Drive and choose Uninstall option

4) Click OK button to confirm

5) Close Device Manager window

6) Download the file dvdiconfix.zip given at the bottom of the post under the Attached files section

7) Open the file dvdiconfix.zip and double click the file dvdiconfix.reg

8) Click Continue button if prompted by UAC

9) You will be asked to confirm. Click Yes button

10) Finally click OK button

11) Restart your PC for the changes to take effect
