How to Prevent users from Read and Write Access to Tape Drives in Windows Vista?


You can accomplish this in the following way:

1) Open Local Group Policy Editor and navigate to the branch

Computer Configuration \ Administrative Templates \ System \ Removable Storage Access in the left pane

2) To Prevent users from Read Access to Tape Drives follow these steps:

a) Double click the option Tape Drives: Deny read access in the right pane as highlighted in the Figure 1

b) Select the dot Disabled or Not Configured to allow read access

OR

Select the dot Enabled to prevent read access

c) Click Apply and then OK button

3) To Prevent users from Write Access to Tape Drives follow these steps:

a) Double click the option Tape Drives: Deny write access in the right pane as highlighted in the Figure 1

b) Select the dot Disabled or Not Configured to allow write access

Select the dot Enabled to prevent write access

c) Click Apply and then OK button

4) Close Local Group Policy Editor
