How to Enable Built in ZIP File support in Windows Vista? If you have uninstalled third party compression software such as WinZip or WinRar, then you will be unable to use the compressed zip files. They will appear like the one shown in the figure below. Figure 1 This tutorial will help you in enabling the built in ZIP File support so that you can handle the compressed ZIP files even without a third party software. After the Built in ZIP File support is enabled you will get to see the ZIP files icon like the one shown in the figure below. Figure 2 You can accomplish this in the following manner: 1) Download the file FixZipBuiltin.txt given at the bottom of the post 2) Open FixZipBuiltin.txt and click the File menu and choose Save As option Figure 3 3) Save it as FixZipBuiltin.reg on the Desktop as shown belo Figure 4 4) The file FixZipBuiltin.reg will look like this Figure 5 5) Now double click the FixZipBuiltin.reg file to execute it 6) Click Continue button if prompted by UAC 7) Click Run button to continue 8) Click Yes button to confirm Figure 6 9) Click OK button when successful Figure 7 7) Restart your PC for the changes to take effect |
