How to Create an Eject CD/DVD Drive Shortcut or Hotkey in Windows Vista?



You can eject CD/DVD drive via Shortcut or Hotkey in Vista by downloading the NirCmd tool by Nirsoft.

Apart from this function, NirCmd performs a number of operations such a mute system volume, turn off monitor, dial to "My Internet" connection and so on. These functions can be checked out at the website.

You can create an Eject CD/DVD Drive Shortcut in the following way:

1) Download NirCmd and extract the nircmd.exe file at a safe place

2) Now right click on the Desktop and choose New and then Shortcut option

3) Type “C:\path_to_nircmd.exe\nircmd.exe” cdrom open drive_letter:

Note: Replace path_to_nircmd.exe with the path where you have saved the nircmd.exe file as shown in the figure below. Replace drive_letter with the CD/DVD drive letter as shown below.

4) Click Next button

5) Type a desired name such as Eject CD-DVD and click Finish button

6) You will notice that the shortcut is formed on the Desktop

7) You can now change its icon


You can create an Eject CD/DVD Drive Hotkey in the following way:

1) First create an Eject CD/DVD Drive Shortcut as shown in above section.

2) Now right click on the shortcut and choose Properties option.

3) Now click on the Shortcut key textbox and then press the desired key. You will notice tat Ctrl+Alt will be added automatically before the key you pressed. This means that you need to press Ctrl+Alt keys before pressing the desired key.

4) Click OK button
