How to Disable Automatic Restart of Computer after Installing Updates automatically when a user is logged on in Windows 7?
If you have set Windows Updates to automatically download and install them then if an update requires restart of your system for the changes to take effect, the logged on user will be notified that windows will restart in five (5) minutes. Thus user will have to save all his work and wait the system to restart again to resume his work. This may cause a bit of inconvenience to the logged on user.

However Windows 7 provides a way through which you can disable this feature. If this feature is disabled then the system will not restart automatically but will ask the user to restart the system for the changes to take effect. User can ignore this message and restart the system at a later time as per his convenience.
To accomplish this follow these steps:
1) Open Local Group Policy Editor and expand the branch
Computer Configuration \ Administrative Templates \ Windows Components \ Windows Update in the left pane

2) Double click the option No auto-restart with logged on users for scheduled automatic update installations in the right pane
