How to create an Outgoing VPN Connection in Windows 7?
This tutorial will help you in setting up an outgoing Virtual Private Network or VPN. This can be used to share files over a large network such as LAN or Internet via point-to point or P2P connection. It appears to be a dedicated network between the nodes but takes the help of a large network it is operating on for secure transmission of data.

To set up a VPN follow these steps:
1) Open Control Panel (All Items View) and navigate to the link Network and Sharing Center and click it

2) Click the link Set up a new connection or network

3) Click on the option Connect to a workplace and then click the Next button

4) Click on the option Use my internet connection (VPN)

5) Give the name or the IP address of the node you want to connect to along with the Destination name.
Note: If you are connecting to a node in a LAN you can provide the node’s IP address or name. If the network is enabled to connect to a node behind a router and also DNS has been enabled then you can type the name of IP address of that node. If DNS is not configured, type the IP address of the router.

6) Select if you want to use a Smart Card or allow other to connect or create a connection and connect later as per your convenience. Click Next button
7) Type the username and related password of the host.

8) If you didn’t check the option Don’t connect now… in the step 6, you will notice a Connect button otherwise you will notice Create button. Click Connect button (go to next step) or click Create button (go to step 11) as applicable.
9) If you click Connect button then wait for a while

10) The connection will be established. Click Close button.

11) To use the VPN right click the Network icon on the Taskbar notification area and click Connect button

12) Now type the proper credentials and click Connect button
