How to show or hide marks for tab characters in Word 2010

While working in a word document, there arrives instances when text formatting is required. There is no possible criteria to know how efficiently and accurately one user has performed. However, for assessment there are various markers provided by Word 2010. One of them is marking for tab characters. When this option is enabled the use of tab key is shown by an arrow marker in the document.

What actually happens is, when you use the tab key in the document for spacing and the marking for it is disabled, then just by looking at the document you cannot tell how many tab spaces are inserted in the document. So to be sure, how many tab spaces you are using in the document you can enable this option. Also, you can disable this option when you are done with final formatting. Follow few steps given below to learn enabling and disabling of marking for tab characters.

Steps to show or hide marks for tab characters: -

1) Click on the Microsoft Office button view its sub-options, then click on the “Options” button located below the “Word” tab among the sub-options of Microsoft Office button to open “Word Options” dialog box

OR

Click on the “Word” tab from the sub-options of Microsoft Office button and then click on the “Options” tab located below the “Microsoft Tools” section, which is attached to the right side of the “Word” tab.

2) From the left pane of the “Word Options” dialog box, click on “Display” tab. Click to check the checkbox for “Tab characters” located below the “Always show these formatting marks on the screen” section in the right pane of “Word Options” dialog box. This will enable the option to show marks for tab characters.

OR

Click to uncheck the checkbox for “Tab characters” located below the “Always show these formatting marks on the screen” section in the right pane of “Word Options” dialog box. This will disable the option to show marks for tab characters.

3) To close the “Word Options” dialog box click on OK button.
