    How to enable or disable update automatic links at open option in Word 2010

    Word 2010 provides a huge scalability to add or remove objects in your documents. The objects may be graphics, picture, excel worksheets, sounds etc. You must be aware withe the fact that you can add active links to the objects that you have added in your document, just to be sure that latest update or modification should reflect in your work too. This is controlled by update automatic links at open option in Word 2010. You can either opt for the option or not as per your choice. You must be wondering why you would not be interested in opting for the option. The simple reason for this is many the links are in the document the slow is the opening time for it. If you donít opt for the option then you have to manually update the links, or opt for the option and then open the document again. Go through the steps for enabling or disabling the update automatic links at open option in Word 2010 to accomplish the task yourself.


    Steps to enable or disable update automatic links at open option in Word 2010: -

    1. Dialog box for "Word Options" should be open first to proceed further. To do so click the "Microsoft Office" button and then trace any one of the steps a) or b).

    a) After you click on the "Microsoft Office" button a drop down list containing tabs for options related to your document will appear. Press the "Options" button by a click on it. You will find the button located under "Word" tab.

    b) After you click on the "Microsoft Office" button a drop down list containing tabs for options related to your document will appear. Press the "Word" tab by a click on it, and then press the "Options" tab located under the "Microsoft Tools" section and to the adjacent side of "Word" tab.

    2. Once the dialog box for "Word Options" opens, you are now ready to enable the option "Update automatic links at open". From the left pane of "Word Options" dialog box click on the "Advanced" tab and then search for the section "General" on the adjacent side of "Word Options" dialog box. After locating the section click in the checkbox for the option "Update automatic links at open" in it to check and enable automatic update of active links related to the objects you've inserted in word document.

    OR

    Once the dialog box for "Word Options" opens, you are now ready to disable the option "Update automatic links at open". From the left pane of "Word Options" dialog box click on the "Advanced" tab and then search for the section "General" on the adjacent side of "Word Options" dialog box. After locating the section click in the checkbox for the option "Update automatic links at open" in it to uncheck and disable the automatic update of active links related to the objects you've inserted in word document.

    3. Click on the "OK" button of the "Word Options" dialog box, to close it.
