How to enable or disable background repagination in Word 2010

Pagination is the process of number pages in a proper manner in word document. The pagination in word document is automatically enabled when you are working in Print Layout view of Word 2010. The option is greyed out when the view is Print Layout. However, if you are working in any other layout view of Word 2010, you can enable or disable the background repagination while you can continue working. The functionality is controlled by an option labelled as "Enable background repagination" which is available in the "General" section of "Advanced" tab for "Word Options". Before trying to enable or disable the option, ensure that the layout view selected to work with is any other than the Print Layout view. Go through the steps for enabling or disabling the enable background repagination option in Word 2010 to accomplish the task yourself.

Steps to enable or disable background repagination in Word 2010: -

1. Dialog box for "Word Options" should be open first to proceed further. To do so click the "Microsoft Office" button and then trace any one of the steps a) or b).

a) After you click on the "Microsoft Office" button a drop down list containing tabs for options related to your document will appear. Press the "Options" button by a click on it. You will find the button located under "Word" tab.

b) After you click on the "Microsoft Office" button a drop down list containing tabs for options related to your document will appear. Press the "Word" tab by a click on it, and then press the "Options" tab located under the "Microsoft Tools" section and to the adjacent side of "Word" tab.

2. Once the dialog box for "Word Options" opens, you are now ready to enable the option "Enable background repagination". From the left pane of "Word Options" dialog box click on the "Advanced" tab and then search for the section "General" on the adjacent side of "Word Options" dialog box. After locating the section, click in the checkbox for the option "Enable background repagination" in it to check and enable the background repagination (numbering of pages in proper order) when you can continue your work in Word 2010, when type of view is other than Print Layout view.

OR

Once the dialog box for "Word Options" opens, you are now ready to disable the option "Enable background repagination". From the left pane of "Word Options" dialog box click on the "Advanced" tab and then search for the section "General" on the adjacent side of "Word Options" dialog box. After locating the section, click in the checkbox for the option "Enable background repagination" in it to uncheck and disable the background repagination (numbering of pages in proper order) when you can continue your work in Word 2010, when type of view is other than Print Layout view.

3. Click on the "OK" button of the "Word Options" dialog box, to close it.
