How to create a shortcut to properties of keyboard for Windows 7

There are various features introduced in the operating system; Windows 7, to make it more efficient and user friendly. Various features are also included to improve the appearance and user interaction of the operating system. Various options for the hardware devices connected to the computer are also provided by Windows 7 to its users. These options too help in customizing the usage of Windows 7. Key board is the major part of a desktop or laptop; hence configuration and options related to it are also introduced. Key board is termed as the major input device for any desktop or laptop. You can create a shortcut to open the properties of keyboard and move it to desired location, if you find it annoying to follow the orthodox way for opening the properties dialog box related to the keyboard. Few steps are undernoted to show how a shortcut for properties of keyboard created in Windows 7.

Steps for creating a shortcut of properties related to keyboard in Windows 7: -

1. First of all, right click on any vacant/blank area at the desktop for invoking context menu of the desktop. Then click on the option entitled as "New" to again invoke its options related to option itself in the same context menu format. Now click on the "Shortcut" option. This will invoke the create shortcut dialog box.

2. Type the under noted path in the 'Type the location of the item:' section's text box and then click on the "Next" button of the dialog box for "Create Shortcut".

3. Give "Keyboard Properties" as the name to the shortcut by typing "Keyboard Properties" in the 'Type a name for this shortcut:' section's text box. Now press the "Finish" button of the dialog box for "Create Shortcut" by a click, to successfully complete the creation of the shortcut.

You can double click on the shortcut for keyboard properties to invoke dialog box for "Keyboard Properties" dialog box and then can customize the settings related to the properties of the keyboard accordingly. In addition if you desire for changing the icon of the shortcut, follow few further more steps mentioned below to do so. (Note: - It is not compulsory to change the shortcut's icon as the functionality of the shortcut will not differ by changing the icon. However, to achieve a custom feel you can opt for the undernoted steps for changing the shortcut's icon)

Steps to change the icon of the shortcut for Properties of Keyboard:-

1. Now move the mouse pointer on the shortcut and right click on it, to invoke the context menu related to the shortcut. Choose the "Properties" option from the context menu by clicking on the option, which will open the dialog box for "Keyboard Properties Properties".

2. Ensure that the "Shortcut" tab is enabled in the "Keyboard Properties Properties" dialog box, if not then click on it to enable. Now, click the button entitled as "Change Icon..." button located in the "Shortcut" tab of the dialog box for "Keyboard Properties Properties", which will then open the dialog box for "Change Icon".

3. Type the under noted path exactly in the "Look for icons in the file:" section's text box and click on the "OK" button.

4. Select an icon from the list under "Select an icon from the list below:" section of the "Change Icon" dialog box by a click on the desired icon. Now click on the "OK" button of the "Change Icon" dialog box to close it.

5. Next, click on the "Apply" and "OK" button of the "Keyboard Properties Properties" dialog box to successfully change the icon of the "Keyboard Properties" shortcut.

Once the above mentioned steps are traced properly, the users are then capable to create a shortcut for properties of keyboard and then change the icon of the shortcut in Windows 7.
