Renamed Windows Applications in Windows 7



Among all the new features and changes in Windows 7, several applications have been renamed. They are as shown below:

Windows Photo Gallery: The old name for this in previous versions is Windows Picture and Fax Viewer. In addition to offering a way to view photos, Windows Photo Gallery assists you to categorize your digital photos and videos. It also permits you to fine tune the images and gives exceptional printing and movie and presentation making capabilities.

Windows Mail: The old name for this in previous versions is Outlook Express. Windows Mail is an email client program for the use of POP3 and IMAP accounts. Being a re-designed and improved version of Outlook Express, Windows Mail contains better features to fight with the issues such as junk email and phishing scams which try to illegally acquire your personal and sensitive information.

There are two other improved applications that interface with Windows Mail, in addition to being great standalone applications, are Windows Calendar and Windows Contacts.

Windows Contacts: The old name for this in previous versions is Windows Address Book. Windows Contacts assists you to keep track of contact and personal information of your family, friends, and colleagues.

Similar to Windows Address Book, Windows Contacts is included with Windows Mail. It, however, has also been re-designed to offer better functionality for standalone use and its interface and features greatly improved.

Windows Fax and Scan: The old name for this in previous versions is Fax Console. Like the other applications, Windows Fax and Scan is more user-friendly and contains enhancements. You can create cover sheets onscreen to be used with your fax or include files to be faxed.

Of course, scanning capabilities have also been included. Additionally, improvements have been made, such as support for scanning documents to include with faxes and supporting network connected scanners.

Windows Meeting Space: The old name for this in previous versions is NetMeeting. Even though Windows Meeting Space doesn't offer communication via the Internet as with NetMeeting, it is very useful for in-person meetings or a meeting with all participates in the same building. You can connect with each other over a wired or wireless network or by using a peer-to-peer wireless connection.

Note: Windows Fax and Scan is included only in Windows Vista Business, Windows Vista Enterprise, and Windows Vista Ultimate or Windows 7 Ultimate.
